Federal Police Agency Sees Spectacular Results

With DataWalk 10-Week Project

Introduction

One of the key Federal police agencies in Europe did a ten-week project of DataWalk software, specifically to explore how and whether DataWalk could meet specific requirements associated with nine use cases across data management, data visualization, analysis, and investigations.

The 10-week project was an overwhelming success, with all nine use cases successfully demonstrated. Based on the project, customer efficiency can be improved by roughly 3X, while realizing an estimated cost savings of $23M per year.

The Challenge

This agency was initially looking for an investigation and search tool to better support their investigative efforts. Upon encountering DataWalk, the agency realized that there was potential for a far more comprehensive solution that would have greater impact across the agency.

The agency wanted to have the ability to:

  • Connect siloed data sources into a unified system and view
  • Reduce manual processes and take advantage of AI-driven automation
  • Improve investigative efficiency
  • Extend the platform capabilities using AI technologies like generative AI/LLM and object detection
  • Become more self-sufficient, and less reliant on vendor assistance

Based on their positive experience with the DataWalk team after the 2-day workshop and indications that DataWalk could enable the agency to dramatically improve operations, the agency decided to engage DataWalk in a 10-week project.

10-week project

The agency specified nine specific use cases to be demonstrated during the project:

  • Geospatial analysis for Call Detail Records (CDRs), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (license plate data, or ANPR), and other data.
  • Ingestion and analysis of UFDR files (cellphone data extracted via Cellebrite) shattering the limitation of Cellebrite Pathfinder analysis
  • Financial analysis (economic and financial crime)
  • Case-based permission model
  • Automating police reports generation
  • Processing and analysing unstructured data using Generative AI / LLMs
  • Ability to instantly visualize a 360-degree view of any data element (e.g., person, crime, or anything else) on a single pane of glass
  • Data integration and creation of a knowledge graph
  • AI/machine learning models and applications

DataWalk software was deployed for a ten-week evaluation period utilizing ten data sources. The evaluation was highly collaborative, heavily engaging the agency’s team in order to ensure that they fully understood and experienced the DataWalk system.

The Results

Key results of the evaluation included:

  • All nine of the agency’s required use cases were effectively addressed.
  • The agency saw an average reduction of 65% in time-per-task, which in itself directly represents an efficiency improvement of roughly 3X.
  • Potential annual cost savings to the agency were estimated to be $23M per year.
  • The value of DataWalk was demonstrated for users across the agency: Leaders, investigators, analysts, data scientists, developers, and IT/Admin staff.
  • New technologies like Generative AI have been used to automate and accelerate investigation processes.

Detailed demonstrated benefits included:

Creation of a single enterprise platform

A single enterprise-grade platform that covers functionality of a wide spectrum of applications and extensions (e.g., Mercure, Cellebrite Pathfinder GES, “Most Wanted” Database, i2 ANB, and others) including maps, queries, link charting, case management, reporting, and data prep and ingestion.

Reduce investigative blindspots

Knowledge graph combines all data sources providing a complete 360-degree view of client data, ensuring no critical connections or insights are missed.

Reduce manual effort

DataWalk automates data ingestion, structuring, analysis, and reporting to reduce time spent on repetitive tasks and accelerate investigations. During the project, Generative AI has been used to extract entities from text, transcript audio files, and generate a short summary for transcription

Secure, enhanced collaboration

With DataWalk, the agency can collaborate securely and selectively across teams and departments with full audit logs, deconfliction and controlled data access.

Cost-effective and extensible

With DataWalk, you maintain full ownership of both the system and your data. You have the flexibility to make your own changes and scale the platform by integrating new data sources, connections, and analytical functions. This reduces reliance on external services, lowers costs, and empowers you to expand the system to meet your evolving needs.

Improve investigation accuracy

Agency analysts can use advanced multi-hop queries, robust investigation capabilities and AI-driven insights to reduce false leads and enhance precision in investigation.

Quickly uncover hidden patterns

DataWalk provides AI and knowledge graph technology to dynamically and automatically reveal complex relationships and insights. All fully transparent and with no coding required.

Comments by agency staff and leaders upon completion of the evaluation included:

“We have never encountered a vendor who works so actively with us and who is as interactive, proactive and problem solving as DataWalk …….EVER.”

“What DataWalk did in three weeks, we were not able to do in four years with another project.”

This 10-week project reflected how unique DataWalk technology can enable our customers to achieve dramatic improvements in a surprisingly short period of time.
